You guessed it – none other than the man himself… This run of shows was important for many reasons, but arguably the two most important ones were as follows : First, this was in a way the true-tested showing of Garcia’s ” Comeback ” from his near-death diabetic coma frightfully experienced after the Summer’86 Grateful Dead Tour. And Secondly, these shows featured not only smoking-hot J. G. B. ” Sets, but they also each featured an ” Acoustic!! Set from the Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band J. G. A. B. There was no finer way to show your thanks to the fans, and your sheer love and passion than ” going-acoustic ” for 18-straight nights on Broadway! Many musicians wouldn’t take this chance, but Jerry would – and thankfully for us, he indeed did! As many musicians well know, it’s pretty tough to ” hide-behind ” an acoustic guitar (& especially lead guitar) when your fretboard-chops aren’t 100% on. Even playing with a band, everything is way audible live – and unlike playing electric guitar, you just simply cannot hide. But what did Jerry care, because his playing was completely on, and he was Back!! This one gets right to the point, my fellow fans – Garcia working his magic in fine photo fashion, with the dates & occasion boldly stated on the back. I mean holy Garcia / Hunter? ! ? The bottles stand as empty, as they were filled before. Time there was and plenty, but from that cup no more. Almost like a 180 degree turn-around, you know? I love it when Dead Tunes do that, like only they can. It’s now one of my favorites, that I find myself even looking for on tapes. Go & get your hands on ” Truckin’ Up To Buffalo ” from July 4th, 1989 (7/4/1989) at Rich stadium – and you can watch Garcia just Hammer! This one to pieces… Jerry loves this song that he & Robert wrote – and on the right night(s) – wow, does it show. And meanwhile, as for the Shirt! Sorry, just got a bit carried away there… This is a big-time Dead Dan favorite, that 1st debuted on the G. Lot scene, inside Arenas, etc. That version was a one color tie-dye (similar) that was pure blue & white. This is the 2001 version, and what I love about this one is the tie-dye pattern! You’ve got Blue, Pink & Green! In a layered tie-dye style… Kinda like a neopolitan G. Style tee, if I may. The photos on this one definitely do it justice, but when you sport this one out, about, and at some Shows! Re-lived by anyone who chooses & chooses wisely! Version also opened the Show… Eugene on a Lighting-Hot Oregon Sunny Day!! So – I’m thankful I was real close, and I’m also thankful that it was in California & inside the Coliseum! On this one – in full-on Deadhead Tuxedo regalia!! & with a Rose!!! Fall in all Dead Tour! Veterans, because here it is! ” The ” – ” It’s Worth The Trip ” Smokin’ Uncle Sam Shirt!!! So, if you were on tour in the Late-80’s & Early-90’s, you might be well aware that this Legendary ” lot shirt ” hit the scene for the 1st time during the 1987 Spring / Summer Tours – but then it seemed to magically disappear. Still seen on the backs of proud Deadheads, naturally… But strangely not available for sale? ! ? Well, you know – it happens. However, once’94 rolled around – Yes! This one made the long-awaited ” return ” to the parking lots – due to’ popular demand’, or at least I would think so. To my knowledge, this was not only the official return, but it was also the’ debut’ of the ” Summer 1994 ” version created – to a whole new generation of Dead Fans. Well – Old & New, of course. This one hit the scene for the’94 Summer Tour, and then again I believe only one-more-time – which was the’94 Fall version (with ” Santa-Jerry ” on the back) for the’94 Winter Tour… Which was West Coast only. Point being – this is now Your chance for a true piece of Dead Fan T-Shirt Art Lot Style! You just don’t seen too many of these around over the last two (2) decades, and this one is in fantastic shape, with consideration of its age. In my personal opinion – and for what that’s worth… You really can’t beat the ” Smokin’ Sam ” graphic on the front of this one, and on the back… Well, it speaks for itself – featuring All of the Tour Dates from the fabulous Grateful Dead 1994 Summer Tour!!!!! Ll Dead Fans are mostly on the same-page in regard to the sheer Importance! Of the 1975 ” Blues For Allah ” Album. This was the Grateful Dead’s ” Comeback ” after all, following a group hiatus – which nearly led to a complete dis-banding! Oh my, what would we all have done throughout the Late 70’s & 1980’s? ! ? Well, thankfully that was not the case – however, as Grateful Dead ” images ” go – it is tough to beat this one : ” Blues For Allah ” – is right up there with Steal Your Face! ” & ” Bertha Skeleton & Roses! However, those were invented during the arguable ” Golden Era ” of the Band, while this image on the other hand represented Magnificent! Change’ & Transformation for The Grateful Dead! I can only imagine some of the fan-reactions when they first heard their ” Allah ” Album – wow! And especially being there to see it performed ” Live ” during those so very few & precious 1975 chances!! The funny thing is, probably just about the exact same thing happened a couple years later when they also heard ” Terrapin Station “! ? ! These were interesting times indeed, and in my opinion this is the quintessential image from this way-beyond exciting time for the Grateful Dead. And as for this Shirt itself? This is a Shirt made by Grateful Dead Productions 1987! You bet Dead Fans… This one clocks in now at close to 40-Years old! ? !
