Vintage 1970s Grateful Dead t-shirt American Beauty Blue Rose tee Mens Medium
Vintage Grateful Dead t-shirt, dates to the 1970s. Features the iconic blue rose graphic, one of the all-time great images associated with the Grateful Dead. It was designed by Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley, and made famous for their New Years Eve Dec 31, 1978 show held at Winterland in San Francisco. The opening acts included the Blues Brothers and New Riders of the Purple Sage. This isa classic seventies style and cut, with a shorter fit than modern t-shirts. Short sleeves, crew neck collar, straight cut through body. Light ivory color with a detailed graphic in blues. It is a comfortably worn in 100% cotton in excellent condition. No stains, armpits are in great condition, just a couple of small pinhead sized holes at front near hem as pictured. Machine washable in cold water, hand to dry already cleaned and ready to wear. It is pictured on a men’s size 39 chest mannequin for reference. S I Z E? Tag size – vintage US men’s large / 42-44. Fits like – modern US men’s medium 39 to a snug 42. Chest – measures 20″ flat and stretches to 21″ flat. Waist – measures 20″ flat and stretches to a tight 21″ flat. Sleeve – 6.5. Shoulder – measures 19″ seam to seam and stretches to 20″. Rare Undated Ed Donohue American Beauty Grateful Dead Tie Dye T-shirt
RARE UNDATED ED DONOHUE “AMERICAN BEAUTY” GRATEFUL DEAD TIE DYE T-SHIRT. Original shirt made by the AMAZING Ed Donohue. He was one of the very first people to hand print and tie dye his own shirts. He made his own ink and silk-screened his name and date on the shirt for authenticity. I have been told that this was one of Eds first shirts that he put his artwork on. All indications are that this shirt is an early to mid 70s edition. Some have said that this was his representation of American Beauty, an album that the Grateful Dead released in November of 1970. I have been unable to verify that these statements are true. Hanes tag is an original tag from the 70’s. Please note that these shirts are the original thin t-shirts by Hanes from the 70s and are sized more around a medium shirt of todays standard. Not heavyweights for sure. This shirt is in excellent shape in new or near new condition. Colors are fresh and crisp. This shirt came from a head shop in Denver that closed in the 90’s. Pre-owned condition Vintage Rare 1982 Grateful Dead American Beauty Raglan “Baseball Style” 3/4 sleeve double-sided T Shirt. 50% Polyester 50% Cotton – Made in USA by Tour Sportswear. Size is Medium but sizes ran smaller back then so please see measurements below. Armpit to armpit measures 17 inches. Top of collar on back of shirt to the bottom hem measures 28 inches. Note: bottom hem is rounded – measurement is to lowest part of rounded hem. Shows signs of wear – fading, loose threads, pilling, minor image cracking. There is a run under one of the armpits (see last photo). There are no other holes. The shirt is paper thin 50/50 polyester/cotton blend. There are no stains on the shirt. One of the Finest! & most widely-recognizable Grateful Dead Albums of all-time… Which dug nicely in to both the Electric & Acoustic depths of Grateful Dead Music. One of the Best! Grateful Dead Album Covers of all-time, designed by the Mouse-Kelley Studios – featuring an amazingly-artistic’Ambigram’ wording on the image… Either “American Beauty” or — “American Reality” – depending naturally, on how you choose to see it. With of course, a Red Rose… Which on this Shirt – is really taken to the next-level, with the black background to highlight this image. There were actually a’Series’ of these Grateful Dead Steal Your Face! XXV Shirts made for the 1990 Touring-Year, which featured the exact-same back side design on all, with a variety of different images on the front side. Shirts were issued in’Black’ only, and this-one pretty much rose to the top in popularity above all the rest. With, naturally – the “Wall Of Sound” design image probably being a near equal favorite to the Dead Fan Faithful. Though, what is really just so-neat about this “American Beauty” design – is that is just meant so-much at the time, as the Band was headed like a’Live’ Train-running-down-the-Track! At the back end of the Massive! And while all of the different “XXV” versions commemorated the 25th Anniversary of the Grateful Dead – this one also recognized “American Beauty” in its 20th-Year! Of existence & influence to the Music World. Is always in the eye of the beholder, but in a lot of ways… You could easily argue that this is one of the neatest & most-meaningful Grateful Dead Shirts of the then’modern’ 1990’s Grateful Dead Era – which obviously now… Is a couple additional decades behind us.
